Fall, 2002 at University of Nebraska Omaha
This Partners in Education (PIE) project was sponsored by the UNO Center for Economic Education and Center for International Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. PIE is administered by American Councils for International Education (ACTR/ACCELS) with funding from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United State Department of State Office of Global Educational Programs, Teacher Exchange Branch.

Purpose
The purpose of the program is Educating Global Citizens: Forming International Partnerships in Civics Education. The exchange allows teachers to exchange cultural information, explore civics curriculum, experience American teaching strategies and develop friendships through school and teacher exchange visits.

University of Nebraska Omaha Partners
The UNO Center for Economic Education and the UNO Center for International Studies co-sponsor this visit to Omaha. Participants have the opportunity to visit schools, attend civics curriculum seminars, attend teacher professional development activities, and are matched with a local teacher for an extensive home visit. The UNO team planned and coordinated the program activities during the 5-week fall visit to Omaha. A 2-week visit to Cherkasy will take place in March of 2003. School districts throughout the Omaha area graciously hosted the guest teachers in their schools, allowing them to observe and participate in teaching activities.

Cherkasy/Kirovohrad Partners
Every year American Councils in Ukraine mails information about programs in education for the current year to all educational establishments. Individuals can apply to the PIE program. They are required to compose an essay describing their teaching experience in civics education. Following a personal interview and TOEFL test, additional information is gathered on participants schools' current curriculum for civics education. Teachers who are selected are invited to the American Councils office in Kiev for a pre-departure orientation.
