The UNO Center for Economic Education will offer a series of Friday seminars featuring a different economic topic each week. Topics will be selected and posted in late March. Download this registration form, mail with a deposit check to register for these seminars.
Guffey Scholarship Application for Summer Programs

Stipends
In addition to the curriculum guides, a limited number of stipends will be available on a first come, first served basis. Stipends will be awarded after the teacher has attended the seminar. Guffey Teacher Stipends are provided through a grant from the Nebraska Council on Economic Education. Curriculum Guides are provided by grant through the National Council on Economic Education.
The limited number of stipends for each seminar will be distributed by order of date of receipt of registration form. Teachers should download special application form above and return.
Teachers attending:
- 1 Seminar receive $50
- 2 Seminars receive $100
- 3 Seminars receive $150
- All 4 Seminars receive $225

Friday, June 13 Teaching about the Great Depression
The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has created a new curriculum guide featuring 6 lessons on the Great Depression. Teachers attending this session will receive the teachers guide and a CD of the lessons. Lessons will also be shared from the NCEE curriculum guide on teaching economics and American history. Although the student materials are aimed primarily at high school, any teacher can attend. Electronic resources from the FED for enhancing history classes will also be explored.

Monday June 16 Using Children's Literature to Teach Economics K-8
This session will help teachers make connections between elementary economics concepts and children's literature through activity based lessons that can easily be coordinated with textbooks. Teachers attending will receive a new NCEE publication "Teaching Economics using Children's Literature". Library and Center staff will review electronic resources from a variety of sources for elementary teachers and classroom strategies will be demonstrated.

Friday, June 20 Economics and the Environment (Back by popular demand)
Curriculum guides from NCEE that feature economic concepts using environmental case studies for elementary and secondary classrooms will be reviewed. Participants will receive guides worth ($25) that contain lessons to prepare students to understand the trade-offs involved in using resources and preserving the environment. Guest speakers will discuss OPPD's plans for future energy needs. A tour of the nuclear plant will follow the seminar.

Friday, July 11 Bus Trip to New Federal Reserve Bank and World War 1 Museum, Kansas City, Missouri
Be one of the first to see the new Federal Reserve Bank building in Kansas City and tour their educational displays. After lunch at the Fed, the group will tour the World War I Museum and Liberty Tower. After a stop for shopping in the Plaza area, the group will arrive home. Bus will leave UNO campus around 7:00 AM and return around 9:30 PM. Full details will be sent later, Space is limited.
