Day-long pre-conference workshop at the Nebraska Career Conference, Kearney, NE. The workshop will feature materials and strategies for improving personal finance courses. UNO and the Federal Reserve Bank will host a workshop for Omaha Public Schools teachers featuring content, strategies and resources for teaching the newly revised Economic and Financial Literacy course that will be taught in fall 2010 in OPS. Jan 14 UNO led a workshop for Papillion-LaVista business teacher and administrator reviewing available personal finance resources both web and print to enhance their current course offerings.
Jan 22 UNO led a 2 part workshop for the faculty of Crestridge International Magnet focusing on the decision-making model and its application in k-6. Teachers are doing a school wide project focusing on the "Three R's around the World" Funding for this project came from the Council on Economic Education's Economic International Showcase program. Teacher taught lessons in the classroom about decision making involved in resource use and recycling. Students participated in several art project s with recycled materials and read books on how different countries used resources.
Jan 23 UNO hosted a teacher focus group gathering information and ideas for the upcoming web project to support 4th grade teachers across Nebraska as they teach the economic dimensions of Nebraska units. The new website funded by and EEE grant from the Council on Economic Education will feature a new refreshed list of elementary economic concepts as well as on-line lessons for teachers to use to strength the students economic knowledge as they learn about NE's economy. Participants were from districts in and around Omaha and representatives from the NE Department of Education.
Jan 26 UNO presented a workshop for elementary studies majors at UNO demonstrating EcEDWeb and the materials teachers can access using the Center library. Sample lessons were distributed to the future teachers.
Feb 9 UNO Center cosponsored a day long visit college of business visitation day for incoming metro high school featuring visits to college classes and panel discussions of students and faculty.
Feb 16 UNO hosted training for OPS teachers for a training session featuring the NEFE High School Financial Planning Curriculum. Amy Shaw of the Credit Union Association led the training session. OPS will be using these materials as they revise their required economics course to add more personal finance concepts.
